Why Silica is an Essential Supplement if you Want Strong Healthy Bones

Posted on 23 January 2024

stronger_bones_with_silicaFor as long as I can remember, we've always been told that we need to make sure to get enough calcium if we want to have strong, healthy bones.  Yes, our bones are made of mostly calcium.  In fact, 90% of the calcium in the human body is found in our bones.  This explains why conventional logic says to take more calcium if you want to maintain, or achieve, stronger bones.

Yes, we need to ensure that he have enough calcium for optimal bone health, but that my only be part of the picture.  Calcium isn't the only mineral found in bones.  One of the other components of bone that people might not be aware of is silica.

Animal studies have been done where silica was eliminated from the diet in the early stages of development.   Chicks that were silica deprived resulted in thinner legs, paler beaks and bones that were easily fractured.  Similar results were seen in rats who exhibited reduced bone mineral density, increased breakdown of collagen, and reduced collagen formation.

In human cell studies, researchers theorized that silica is involved in the bone development process by increasing the formation of osteoblasts.  These are the cells that are involved in the formation of new bones along with the growth and healing of established bones.

Silica also plays a crucial role in building and maintaining collagen. Aside from calcium, our bones are also made up of collagen. It's the most abundant protein found in our bones and helps with keeping our joints and bones flexible.  So if your goal is to promote or maintain strong, healthy bones, adequate silica intake is a must.

Not only does silica supplementation produce healthier, thicker hair, strong nails and glowing skin, it also helps build our connective tissue, collagen, and helps strengthen bones.  Bone loss and weakening is a direct function of the aging process, but we can help slow the process by supplementing the nutrients that we don't normally get through our diet.

Supplementing with bamboo silica is a must because our standard diet is severely lacking.  We're born with naturally high levels of silica that start to decline as we age.  Our silica stores and collagen formation diminish at around the same time (in our 20's).  As silica levels continue to plunge, so does the strength and health of our connective tissue along with our bone density.

Bamboo sourced silica is ideal because it's plant based and a more potent source of silica as it contains 10X the amount of silica compared to horsetail.  Try adding bamboo tea to your routine for 30 days and experience an improvement of your hair, skin and nails.  Keep silica-rich bamboo tea in your routine to elevate your overall wellness routine.
